Yellowtail Seriola lalandi
Attains 14kg in the Cape, averages 3 to 6kg.
We predominantly target yellowtail using light tackle spinning gear rigged with thin braid, casting to surface feeding fish which provides for some very exciting fishing as you see the yellowtail crashing behind your lure. The take is also direct with the zero stretch braid and is exhilarating. Another technique when the fish are not visibly feeding is trolling swimming lures on lighter tackle rods.
Yellowtail are a very strong fighter and give you a great run on light spinning tackle. They will often try to reef you on the bottom so its important to exert decent drag to prevent this.
